Gain info and insight on how to prepare a strong proposal for SBIR grant funds. Awards range from $150K to $1M in capital to explore tech potential, feasibility, or prototype. As long as they meet terms of funding, recipients retain full ownership and IP and do not have to repay funds.

Agenda topics include:

  • Where to find help and resources
  • Q&A opportunities

Workshop will be followed by scheduled individual sessions that begin as early as 1:00pm. Individual sessions are optional, have limited capacity, and are available on a first-scheduled basis.

This SBIR workshop is organized by the Illinois University Incubator Network (IUIN) and the UIC Office of Technology Management. The IUIN is led by EnterpriseWorks at the University of Illinois Research Park. Funding support for this workshop is provided by grants from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Anna LisaAnna Lisa Somera is an experienced medical device consultant, venture capitalist, intellectual property analyst, technology transfer specialist, biomedical researcher, and entrepreneur specialized in early-stage, cutting edge technology businesses. She has been part of the entrepreneurial community in Illinois for 15 years and has helped drive the formation and raised angel and venture funding for several start-up companies spun out of universities while also serving as top management for many of the ventures.

Somera’s advising adds up to over thirty million dollars in grants to date, mostly for Illinois companies. Her multi-disciplinary academic preparation in business, public health, and cell biology, along with her strong ties to the University of Illinois, has aided in her success in the entrepreneurial community. Additionally, Somera serves as an SBIR/STTR grant consultant at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Argonne National Laboratory.
